John Forster shared these two topical poems in May 2020, when he was unable to join our meetings, so we haven’t heard him declaim them.
Isolation Rap
This is my versification
Written with hesitation
In a time of isolation
What is isolation?
Family separation
A feeling of frustration
Lack of conversation
Can’t follow my inclination
No personal gratification
Days without variation
No chance of deviation
A feeling of vexation
Lack of information
Doubt about our destination
No sign of relaxation
No date for termination
A feeling of trepidation
About the state of the nation.
This rap’s compilation
Brings no elation
No consolation.
Positivity Rap
This rap shouts positivity
No more negativity
No morbidity
No fear of mortality
Sings flexibility
Adaptability
Online sociability
International connectivity
Virtual proximity
Preserving our sanity
Singing the probability
Of future normality
Renewed vitality
The inevitability
Of a new polity
A more selfless society.

Desperation and deflation – followed by a welcome quantity (neither brevity nor prolixity) of felicity.
