Light

Above us shine a thousand thousand stars –

Look up and you’ll be bathed in gentle glow.

Like Heraclitus, watch the whirling show *

Imagining you see time’s reservoirs.

No earthly entertainment can contest

This cosmic flux beyond the mind’s frontier.

How grand its repetitions year on year –

Exact, majestic, intimate and blessed.

Go unawares, and grant your downcast eyes

Uncaring city-scapes, rural disease,

The detritus of pointless merchandise.

Turn up your gaze to see the starbright night,

Engaged in its eternal reveries –

Restore your sense of wonder and delight.
