It’s grandchildren she’s meaning.
Two carry my genes,
Two do not.
How can I explain,
That these little ones,
Gifted to us through
The twists and turns
Of fate or the intention of the universe,
Have awoken
A mysterious capacity of love
And mended a heart
Long broken.
As well as the telling use of the helix image, I like that the poet leaves us to imagine the story behind the last lines.
