Toast

Give up your sedentary and tedious job,
Offload your stifling family and friends.
Work’s avenues turn out to be dead ends –
Evade them now, escaping from the mob
So long engulfing you. You’ll need to pack
Two pairs of pants, a toothbrush and a comb,
Your optimism and a garden gnome –
Of course, I’m joking, put that toothbrush back.
Up on your horse, or ride the iron rail –
No need for money, take a boxcar ride.
Go west! young man, and live to tell the tale.
Montana’s mountains, California’s coast,
Alaska’s awesome wastes – but leave aside
Nevada’s gambling, or you’ll end up toast.
