Waiting room

– Since when were you so interested in art?
– Since I was made to wait so long in here.
That’s all there is to read – to look at, anyway.
A right peculiar waiting-room this is,
With only art books and a set of Proust.
Mind you, maybe a cork-lined room
Is where we’re going when the doctor calls,
With walls to deaden any screams of pain.
– Now Kenneth, stop imagining such things.
There’s nothing badly wrong with you, I’m sure.
I like these calming colours, and the flowers,
But they should have more comfortable chairs.
This bureau – cabinet? – is quite Ikea.
I wonder what they keep in all the drawers.
